So the Creative Team at xiik’s Indianapolis Regional office said, “Enough is enough!” Enough sharing the conference room with clients, enough business casual dress codes and enough “being on our best behavior” (whatever that even means). So what was the boss man’s decision? He kicked us out! Our Director of Operations, Topher, gave us a modest budget for rent and furnishings and told us to get out. What’s our solution? Well, we’ve created the xiik Operations Office near downtown Indianapolis. Whatever Topher wants to call it, we, its new residents lovingly refer to it as The Geek Bar. Since we are all “xiik geeks”, the name makes perfect sense. Don’t knock it — deep down, you know we’re really cool. This is our creative factory — a place for us to collaborate, communicate and customize a workspace to match our eclectic personalities. In layman’s terms, “Let our freak flag fly.”
It’s not quite the lavishly carpeted office space with the leather desk chairs, wood furnishings and fancy bathrooms (with stalls) that you may have seen up at our northside office. Instead, we traded it for painted plywood floors, white walls and not-so-lightly used furniture. It’s exactly what we wanted! This is our space to xiik out on. In one week, we’ve erected a conference table, added a comfy 70′s couch and there’s talk of a Cereal Bar coming next month (move over, Pixar). We’ve even got a guard bug and Yoda to look after us.
In a sense, this is our paradise. A secret lair that clients and other “professionals” don’t even know about — or at least they don’t know where it is. This is our clubhouse. The Geek Bar is a place to work on more than our marketing and strategic skills; it will create new opportunities by providing an environment really meant for geeks, regardless of their tools: design, development, strategy, marketing or all of the above. What does Topher think of our new creation? Rumor has it, he says it’s long overdue and is excited to continue to expand our Sales and Account Management teams up north while we build, cultivate and nurture our creative folks downtown.
The transition is slow as folks migrate their bodies and belongings to their new home, but the whole team is excited (including the new staff) to have this second Midwest office. It may not look like much right now, but rest assured this place will be totally revamped over the course of the next few months. So stay tuned for the progress and development of the new hideout for xiik’s misfits — The Geek Bar.
